AMP Theme On Blogger Advantages & Disadvantage

AMP Theme On Blogger Advantages & Disadvantages

Implementing Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) on your Blogger site you can ask. So do you know the advantages and disadvantages of using an AMP Blogger theme? If you don't know and want to learn about AMP, read this article to the end to find out why AMP is still not supported before implementing AMP on your site.

NOTE: Not all AMP Blogger themes you find on the web have AMP capability. Some of the AMP themes we publish on our site do not fully meet this feature.

What is Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)?

AMP HTML is what Google offers to provide mobile-optimized content that can load instantly anywhere It is an open source project.

In short, AMP makes your site load faster on smartphones, but it greatly affects your ad revenue and does not allow the use of third-party JavaScript.

Google has contributed to this project Apple News App and Facebook's snapshots (Facebook instant Articles) launched as competition.

AMP is platform independent, giving publishers the ability to optimize content for mobile devices and make it accessible to all devices via a web browser. It has some advantages, but there are also a few cons that are worth considering before choosing AMP.

The following are some of the AMP restrictions;

  • Allows asynchronous only "async" script feature.
  • Statically size all resources.
  • Blocks and disallows extension mechanisms from action.
  • Disables all third-party JavaScript files.
  • All CSS files must be inline and 50 bytes smaller.
  • Refreshing style files should be minimized.
  • Prioritizes loading of source files.

Can you implement AMP on Blogger?

Yes, you can, albeit partially. The Blogger team does not officially implement AMP on their Blogger blog. Blogger XHTML templates do not currently support AMP HTML tags.

Designers implementing AMP on Blogspot are forcibly removing important XML tags from the template. This is not recommended and could seriously affect your blog in the long run.

applying the AMP feature in a blog theme with compelling actions  is like placing a Ferrari engine in a Şahin car or a low budget car and expecting it to give the same performance. The car may have to run a Ferrari engine, but without the support of all the features of the engine. It's not fair to expect it to work. That's why I'm telling you especially for now, don't waste your efforts.

You can certainly create an AMP Blogger theme for your Blogspot blog, but at the expense of many of Blogger's key features and theme looks. In short, as long as AMP doesn't allow third-party jQuery and javaScript features, it turns your blog into a plain CSS and HTML design.

There are some special HTML tags that need to be added between the template codes of your blog theme to enable AMP validation on your blog. If verified, Google will add the AMP icon next to your blogspot blog in search results. You can expect better traffic, but you may have to compromise on ad revenue and blog appearance.

The Difference Between AMP and Other Themes

AMP= Compatible Themes + Custom HTML Tags

Before converting your theme to AMP, it must first be made mobile responsive by adding CSS media queries and a few breakpoints.

AMP is basically a very simplified/optimized version of your responsive template with the addition of some custom HTML tags.

HTML tags, called AMP, are the diet of your pages, as are salt, sugar, and fatty foods for a dieter.

Are AMP Themes Faster Than Other Themes?

In theory, AMP pages should load faster than a normal responsive page; however, a page will load slower if the same AMP page is not properly/clean coded compared to the mobile responsive page.

Compatible themes display both sidebar and footer and run all third-party jQuery and javaScript. Mobile-friendly blog themes are a mobile-friendly version of your desktop theme with almost all desktop features, widgets, plugins, and other web elements.

You cannot use a style file larger than 50 bytes in AMP themes, nor can you use third-party widgets such as add-to-carts or social share buttons.

AMP transforms the professional looking desktop look into a flat design with only Logo (Header), Menu (Nav), Body and Footer.

When you sacrifice that much for page load time / speed, of course such a fast AMP page will be created and will load much faster compared to a slow responding page.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of AMP Blogger Themes

Here are the important advantages and disadvantages of using an AMP Blogger theme:
Advantages Disadvantages
1. AMP themes load faster.

AMP pages load much faster compared to a compatible blog theme.
1. AMP negatively affects advertising revenues.

With a mobile-friendly website, you will not make as much money as you earn from advertising revenues.
2. AMP themes can improve your rankings.

AMP helps Washington users (The Washington Post) SERP ranking and organic increased its traffic by 23%.
2. You cannot use jQuery and javaScript!

Custom interactive widgets and plugins that make your blog look professionally designed are not allowed. You have to use ready-made javaScript with important functions provided by Google.
However, you can use AMP iframe, but the iframe's will load slowly with a condition that must be at least 600px or 75% of the top of the first field of view.
3. The number of blog page views will increase.

Blog pages load instantly, providing a better user experience in terms of speed.
3. You cannot use the Blogger comment form.

You can use Facebook / Disqus / Google + comment plugins instead, but using and editing iframes in Blogger's official comment form is not allowed (you cannot remove or delete).
4. AMP themes are used on news sites and deliver good results. So it's more suitable for news blogs. 4. You cannot use the Blogger theme / template editor.

You cannot customize your theme in Blogger theme designer. The <b:skin> tag and the <b:template-skin> tag are removed and edited.
  5. All images added to publications should be edited.

You will need to individually edit the <img> tags of all images or images in your blog posts with the amp supported tag of <amp-img>. Of course, if you have more than 50 posts, it will take a lot of time for the blog administrator.
  6. You cannot use widgets in the sidebar.

AMP does not allow third-party JavaScript. If you want to use a widget that runs on JavaScript, you cannot use it.
Some widgets in the layout section using text + image text+image are only supported after their code is edited in the theme section, but only if they are compatible.
  7. You cannot sell products on your blog.

The use of the Add-to-Cart button is not allowed.
  8. All videos and audio files embedded in broadcasts should be edited.

Your all YouTube / Facebook / Vimeo videos and video clips, as mentioned on this page you will need to edit it via different embed tags.
  9. All iframe tags used inside posts should be changed
To display an iframe on your
page, only amp-iframe</ You should use code> element.
  10. Email subscription form not available.

The onclick, action, onsubmit, onfocus and onblur attributes are not allowed in AMP ; You cannot create a subscription form for your blog readers unless you use an iframe other than that.
  11. AMP supports limited ad networks.

Only AdSense ads are now properly supported by AMP.
  12. XMLNS attributes should be removed.
The
xmlns attribute is inserted inside your blog's opening <html> tag, which gives the web browser important information about the web technology used by your blog.

AMP prompts you to remove all these attributes and add only the amp="amp" attribute.

If a document is missing the xmlns attribute that specifies the xml namespace, your blog will not be verified by http://w3.org.

Do we recommend AMP?

To say this without adding our own thoughts, AMP is not the first choice of all publishers.

Even Washington users who openly supported AMP last year and corporate news blogs like CNN don't seem to be on the side of supporting it in 2017. Of course, it is difficult to predict how true or false this is, but you can clearly see the AMP tags removed by these two sites and they are no longer supported.

AMP speeds up your site, but with the constraints on your ad revenue and freedom in customization. No technology can survive without the freedom of UI customization.

Some publishers are not generating as much ad revenue as they hoped. In an article from The Wall Street Journal, publishers who did not find AMP very helpful in improving their ad revenue had serious problems. had expressed his concerns.

He complains that an AMP pageview currently generates about half a pageview of a fully mobile-friendly website. As we mentioned above, sidebars cannot be used in AMP themes. Therefore, creating a detailed page is a very difficult situation in AMP themes.

It is not a good or right option for the Blogger platform as there is currently no official support for AMP. Forcibly converting a theme's code to AMP is problematic, even for bloggers who don't know enough about code editing or editing.

It is necessary to wait for the Blogger team to provide a CMS support to implement AMP in Blogger themes. Just like how Blogger blogs are providing support for https to Blogger users on how to fix the issue of image URLs in https.

BE is currently mobile responsive and I would not opt for AMP unless official support is given by Blogger.

For Wordpress users there is a plugin called AMP For Wordpress that you can use to convert your WP site into an AMP site, but as we mentioned, yes you will get a fast load time but it may have a negative impact on ad revenue and other design related freedoms.
